About Lawyer

Christine McKenna is Senior Counsel at the Markham office having joined Aviva Trial Lawyers in 2019. Prior to this, she worked for twenty years at a prominent Toronto insurance defence firm. Christine received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto in 1990. She went on to obtain her LL.B from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1993 and was called to the bar of Ontario in 1995. Christine primarily practices in the area of first party accident benefits with an emphasis on catastrophic claims. She also handles loss transfer and priority disputes as well as providing advice on the interface between accident benefits and the Workplace Safety and Insurance Act. Christine has represented clients at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, the Financial Services Commission of Ontario, the Licence Appeal Tribunal, the Workplace Safety and Insurance Appeals Tribunal and in private arbitration. Some notable cases include:  Intact Insurance v. Co-Operators (Private Arbitration), (October 17, 2014) and WSIAT Decision 2239/09 (Khaira v. Nordique). Christine has written for CCH Ontario Accident Benefits Case Summaries and was co-author of the paper “Accident Benefits: Lessons from the Past with Hope for a Better Insurance Product in the Future,” published in The Law Society of Upper Canada Special Lectures, 2008: Personal Injury Law.
