About Lawyer

Vanessa A. Tanner is one of Aviva’s senior litigation counsel at the Toronto office. She joined Aviva Trial Lawyers in August 2014.

Prior to this she worked at two downtown boutique insurance defence firms as well as in-house for a niche insurer. Her area of practice at ATL is trial work with a focus on personal injury. Vanessa has argued in front of many juries as well as Judge alone matters. She has appeared at both the Superior and Divisional Courts, as well as the Financial Services Commission of Ontario. Recently, she was a keynote speaker at the Motor Vehicle Litigation Summit, the Thunder Bay CLE conference for civil litigators, and she is speaking at the upcoming Tricks of the Trade for the Advocates Society. She has also conducted numerous in-house seminars for both clients and colleagues. She volunteers as duty counsel at the Law Society of Upper Canada representing lawyers in disciplinary matters. In December 2017, both for the vindication of Aviva’s customers and market renown for Aviva Trial Lawyers, Vanessa received Aviva’s Living Legend Award.
